This session will focus on team dynamics in collaboration and preparation for effective sentencing. How are the ways that attorneys and mitigation specialists prepare for sentencing similar and different? Additionally, it is important to highlight the importance of understanding and respecting the roles on the team with a focus toward effective communication to advocate for the best sentencing outcome. Areas that will be covered include: rapport building, records gathering, use of experts, use of research articles, importance of positive mitigation, report writing, team awareness, family preparation, understanding the audience, and courtroom advocacy. Key ethical dilemmas will be briefly discussed, highlighting scenarios that are common and could threaten the team collaboration and dynamics.
